did under Regulation 55 of the Defence Regulations of 1940. I cannot recollect when the various requisitions were made but I believe some of them were made in the latter half of 1941 when Major Walters left Hong Kong for India. L remember his annoyance in my office when No. 9 Typhoon Signal was up and he found he could not get in touch with anybody ay Military Headquarters due to the fact that all Military offices were shut. The date of this typhoon could no doubt be found from Hong Kong records. It was probably in August or September.

(4) I believe the Hong Kong Treasury are in possession of the War Supplies Order and Transaction Book which would no doubt provide confirmatory evidence about the 600 wagons. Then again, it probably has my copy of War Supply Transactions, compiled from memory by Capt.(now Major) V.S.Ebbage R.A.0.C. the Army inspect- ing officer, Mr. Sandford the Secretary War Supplies Board, and myself, in 1943 when we were prisoners of war in Sham Shui Po. camp.

Three copies of this were typed but I believe mine was the only one that survived Japanese searches. I handed my copy to Mr. D. J. Sloss, the Chairman of the War Supplies Board on 8th September 1945, at his request. He said he would leave it in a safe place when he left the Colony after finishing with the Civil Information Department.

(5) I hope this information may be of some use to you, but as suggested in paragraph 2, you might be able to obtain fuller details if you get in touch with Mr. James Smith who on the outbreak of hostilities became a Major in the H.K.V.D.C.
